Reflection Essay

I've never dabbled in Maya before, or any 3D modeling program at that, so creating this city was very different for me.  I've used many other editing programs before, so some of the editing tools were familiar to me such as the camera, rotation, scale, XYZ, and the grid.  My plan from the very beginning was to create a futuristic style city, with most of the buildings having an abstract design. I Google-searched "futuristic buildings" and went from there. There were many building designs that were very complicated and I didn't have faith in myself to recreate them, so I looked for more simple designs.

For the most part, I stuck to my plan the whole way through.  I used many of the pictures I found on Google images as reference, but didn't recreate all of them exactly how they were.  Three of my buildings are recreations of my reference pictures, while the other buildings I made are purely my own creation.  Most of the pictures I found served more as inspiration than reference.

I learned quite a bit from this project. One thing that I enjoyed in particular was setting up my scene with the camera inside Maya.  I thought it was fun and interesting because I was able to use my knowledge in film and cinematography to create an entirely digital shot, which is something that I've never done before.  Overall, this has been a fun project to work on, and I can't wait to get started on future projects in the class.
